And then I thought of it; WRITING. I've been stuck in a rut for a while, my joint story dependent on another person and my own writing just not coming to me. The muse had left the building with a very bad elvis impersonation. Just proved how dried up he was.
But I still had the idea in my head of a complex story. As I laid out the particulars to my idea bouncer, mum, I discovered it was complicated and layered and maybe more than I could do alone. But I wanted to finish it and by the gods I was going to finish it, elvis impersonator muse or not! But nothing came.
At the start of summer I looked at one of my favorite author's sites (www.hurog.com) and noticed a FAQ that included writer's block. It said writer's block is nothing more than characters doing something they shouldn't. Delete it back to where it worked and try something else. So I did. It worked. Then as I mentioned this to a friend he suggested the podcasts I should be writing by Mur Lafferty. I haven't listened to them yet, but flicking through the general outline of what they were about I was thinking, this is so not helpful. But she gave a link to a writer's group.
You had to pay but they gave more sites. And I found one I'm going gaga over. [link]. The first night I looked at it and thought, paid workshops, i'm a student, it'll have to wait. there was one complimentary plot outline course and it was good. so I decided i'd explore the second night. didn't find too much but it was tonight I hit pay dirt. I currently have so many pages on her site bookmarked that it needed its own figgin' folder. My brain is starting to melt from overload and i'm not even halfway through what she suggests for help and hints and tips.
If you want to write. Go. To. Her. Site. It will blow your mind away, leaving a muse bigger than the real elvis and singing like a canary. And if he's not, its okay. She'll tell you how to smack him until he does.
